The number of games and manufacturers of coin-operated machines are
almost end less. Choose from slot, gumball, cigar, music, clocks, cash
registers, pinball, gun, and weigh machines, horse gaming and golf,
to name a few. Slot authoritarian, Marshall Fey, author of "Slot
Machines:
A Pictoral History of the First 100 Years," said the slot machine
mushroomed into a premier collectible after 1976, the year that California
legalized antique slot machine collecting. Many states have since followed
suit.
Robert Levy of Pennsauken, N.J., who has more than 250 antique slots,
said he collects because "they increase in value every year. They
are a good investment, very entertaining, they make wonderful banks,
and they will never be made again." His oldest is dated 1893. Levy,
who is for two price guides in the U.S. and one in England, said he
has bought and sold slot machines for 14 years. For some collectors,
"seek and find" offers the most enjoyment. The rare ones are
difficult to locate because many of them were taken to the city dump
and are lost forever. Some collectors like the "thrill" of
owning an illegal item.
Not every state condones ownership of a slot machine, and some states
require that it be a certain age before it can be sold. Levy said the
Attorney General's office of each state regulates the sale of slot machines,
and it is best to check with that office before buying. Cosmetic changes
over the years are not the only consequences of the modern world of
gaming. "With the old machines, you played one coin at a time and
it paid on the center line.
You could have fun playing and watching and waiting for the symbols
to come up. Today's electronic slots play up to 60 lines at one time;
they will take $100 dollar bills and will, geometrically, take money
unbelieveably quicker. You can sit down and in a matter of seconds,
your money is gone, and so is the fun of the game.
The ones that play up to 60 lines let the casino take in less on each
pull, but it (the casino) makes more money in the long run," Levy
said.

There's no need to put bills in your floppy drive. In fact when you're playing
online slots there is no need to handle physical money at all. Unlike a real
casino where you have to spend time at a cashier's desk changing up money, then
having no choice but to lug around buckets of tokens, with online slots there
are no such worries. All your transactions are handled online. A virtual casino
will require you to make a deposit of funds into your casino account. This is
typically done through a third party online financial transaction company, the
most common one being Virtual Exchange. Once you open a Virtual Exchange account,
you just use either your credit card or any one of the various other payment
methods, to deposit money into your Virtual Exchange account. Once you have
money in your Virtual Exchange account it's just a few simple clicks to transferring
the money to your casino account, so you can start playing slots right away.
If you're new to doing business online, there is no need to be nervous. Online
payments and other transactions have become extremely common and are protected
with the most advanced security software that exists. And using your credit
card to make purchases online is safe as well. Even when you use your credit
card at a hotel or a car rental company there is the chance that someone might
see your information. But when you make a purchase at an online casino the only
one who sees your information is the computer-and computers are as honest as
they come.
.
There is one way to almost guarantee yourself a good time, satiate your
appetite for slots, and possibly even come out ahead - and that's to enter
a slots tournament. Many casinos now offer promotional slots tournaments
for a fixed entry fee, which entitles you to participate in a multi-day
tournament event, enjoy free room and board at the casino hotel while the
tournament is in progress, and be wined, dined, and treated like the valued
customer you are by casino personnel. Not only that, your participation
gives you the opportunity to compete against other enthusiasts to win thousands
- even hundreds of thousands - of dollars in tournament prize money.
Most slots tournaments have a number of rounds in which contestants
are given the same amount of machines credits and told to play them
until the time is up or their machine credits run out. The contestant
with the most credits at the end of each round wins a substantial prize
and a spot in the final round. The top prizes are usually rewarded to
the top three finalists.
If you enjoy the thrill and excitement of playing slot machines, slots
tournaments may provide jus the advantage you need to come out ahead.
Because slot playing relies solely button quickly (to get as many chances
as you can to hit the jackpot in a limited amount of the time) and you
can also find tournaments that return the greatest share of your entrance
fee in prize money and room and board comps.

and the information in the last two sections to get a rough
idea of the machines you should be playing. For example, if you want
$1000 to last for four days of five hours play (20 hours total), that
means you can afford to lose $50 per hour. With average results (assuming
90% payout) and expected losses, you should be playing quarter machines
at three quarters per spin.
If you come up nickels in your calculations but want to play dollars,
give up some of your playing time in order to up the ante. Then, do
as you promised and quit playing when the money runs out!
For those of you who have the courage to play way beyond your means,
remember: there are more promising and lucrative ways for you to invest
your time and money. Dumping your savings into a slot machine, though
seemingly exciting and daring, will not resolve inner conflict, dissatisfaction
with your present situation, or any other business or personal problem
that may be temporarily numbed by the mindless exchange of coins. Set
realistic financial limits, and don't play Russian roulette with your
future.
.
In an attempt to bring something new and different to the slot player, some variations on the basic slot machines have been introduced. Some of these include:
Progressive machines:.
These multiple-coin machines do not payoff a set payoff rather the jackpot increases with each play. If no one has hit the jackpot for some time the jackpot can grow to gargantuan size. While
the odds are small the payoff can be huge. One note, if playing at a casino and you are lucky enough to hit a big one, do not leave the machine. The machines are programmed to pay only a
percentage in coins the rest of the winnings will be paid out by a check issued by the casino. Stay at the machine until a casino employee comes over to the machine, should you leave some
scam artists are all too willing to quickly sit at the machine and claim that the payoff is theirs.
Double or nothing machines:.
Some slots have added a wheel that can be played after a win. These doubling wheels are even bets, you have a 50/50 chance of doubling (or losing) your winnings. They do not change the
house edge on the machine, but do add a bit of spice to the game that some players enjoy.
Nudge machines:.
Have a light mounted on them that comes on occasionally. If on the player may move (nudge) a wheel forward or backward one location. Sometimes this is all that is required
for a losing hand to become a winner. The house edge on these machines is generally the same as for regular slots.
Wheel-of-Fortune Machines:.
These machines contain a wheel mounted on top of a slot machine and also a sizable progressive jackpot. When the winning symbols appears on the slot machine the wheel spins and the player has a chance at winning the wheel-of fortune jackpot.
